Lana Del Rey targets Cardi B, Beyonce and Doja Cat in lengthy rant

Lana Del Rey has received much criticism after a lengthy rant she posted to her Instagram account on Thursday, which seemed to target Black female artists.
The singer wrote, “Now that Doja Cat, Ariana [Grande], Camila [Cabello], Cardi B, Kehlani, and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc — can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money — or whatever I want without being crucified or saying I’m glamorizing abuse????”
After receiving backlash for seemingly calling out successful Black female artists, Del Rey backtracked and clarified she only named those specific artists because they are her favorites.
Critics noted that many of the artists named by Del Rey are experiencing a lot of success (such as Minaj, Beyonce, and Doja Cat taking the top spots in the Billboard chart), making Del Rey’s critique read as bitter rather than insightful.
The main opinion shared by those in the music industry is Del Rey should have found a way to express her opinions without dragging the names of Black female artists through the mud.
