An 8-year-old boy in Lexington, Kentucky, unintentionally racked up a $4,000 Amazon bill after using his mom’s phone to order 70,000 Dum-Dum lollipops as prizes for an imagined carnival for his friends. Holly LaFavers discovered stacks of delivered candy cases at her home and quickly realized the mishap. Despite efforts to cancel the shipment, 22 cases arrived before Amazon intervened. An additional eight cases were returned to sender, and LaFavers eventually received a full refund after speaking with her bank and garnering media attention. She has since changed the phone’s settings to prevent future incidents. While the gesture was rooted in kindness, it became an expensive lesson in the importance of parental controls on devices.
