Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX Apple Music halftime show was nominated for four awards at the 77th annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 25. The halftime show, which was headlined by Lamar’s hit single “Not Like Us,” received nominations for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction and Outstanding Choreography (Variety/Reality). Grammy Award-winning singer Beyoncé is also up against Lamar for an Emmy in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category for her halftime performance during the Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans NFL Christmas Day matchup. Beyoncé’s halftime performance included new hits from her “Cowboy Carter” album, and featured hit songs such as “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM.” The Texas Southern University Ocean of Soul marching band and Motion of the Ocean dance team were featured in the performance. Both artists are currently on stadium tours. Kendrick Lamar and SZA are on their international “Grand National Tour” — which wrapped up its North American dates in June — while Beyoncé is on her “Cowboy Carter” tour.
