Kanye West’s Team Announces Name Change
Written by Site Hub on March 27, 2024
Kanye West, legally changed his name to “Ye” in October 2021, and has issued a formal request for all to address him accordingly. This move was publicized through a letter from Milo Yiannopoulos, Ye’s Chief of Staff, urging streamers, publishers, and lyric websites to adopt the rapper’s new moniker. The letter emphasizes Ye’s global recognition and the serious consideration behind abandoning the brand value associated with “Kanye West” for a name that symbolizes his full, legal, and permanent identity. Highlighting the significance of self-determination, especially as a Black man in America, Ye’s decision aligns with his desire for a more authentic representation of his identity and values. Initially announced in conjunction with his eighth studio album, “Ye,” the name change reflects his religious journey and aspiration to embody a universal presence, moving from being “the only one” to simply “Ye,” a term he relates to inclusivity and a shared human experience. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams Court approved the change, with no objections to the petition.
