The Kansas City Chiefs announced they will not be changing their nickname, but they will be retiring their mascot, according to the organization president, Mark Donovan.

The Chiefs mascot was a horse named “Warpaint.”

The football team will be joining the Washington Football Team, formerly known as the Washington Redskins in fighting against discrimination.

On Monday, Donovan stated:

“We have a really good American Indian working group that provides us real guidance and feedback and perspective on this issue.”

He continued and said:

“We’re going to continue to create opportunities to educate, create awareness and work exactly as we have over the past eight years now with the working group.”
