Judge delays Trump’s hush money sentencing until at least September

Former President Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money trial will be delayed after the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. The new date for the sentencing is September 18, after the Republican National and the convention runs from July 15 to 18.
The Supreme Court ruling from Monday provides broad immunity for presidents, restricting prosecutors from using official claims as evidence against unofficial actions. The ruling prompted Trump’s attorney to request a delay and reconsideration of the jury’s verdict. The judge will rule on the request on September 6.
Trump was convicted on May 30 on 34 counts on charges related to paying hush money to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. The delays allow time to reconsider the implications of the recent high court ruling, with both defense attorneys and prosecutors agreeing on the decision.
