ABC abruptly suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, catching staff and guests off guard as they were preparing for the evening’s show.
The decision followed comments by FCC Chair Brendan Carr suggesting that the FCC could push to revoke ABC affiliate licenses to pressure Disney (ABC’s parent company) over Kimmel’s recent remarks about Charlie Kirk’s shooting death.
While the show has not been officially canceled, there is currently no timeline for its return.
The move shocked Hollywood insiders and ABC staff, especially given Kimmel’s long-standing relationship with the network.
