A proposed $5.4 billion Caesars Palace casino in Times Square, backed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, was rejected by a state community advisory board due to strong opposition from Broadway theater leaders concerned about its impact on the district.
The rejection blocks the project from advancing in the state’s casino license process.
Developers and supporters, including Rev. Al Sharpton, criticized the decision, calling it biased and shortsighted.
The casino was planned for 1515 Broadway, home to “The Lion King” musical.
