Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation, in partnership with the Wharton School and Toyota Motor North America, has launched the Champions for Financial Legacy (CFFL) initiative to enhance financial literacy among HBCU students. Based on Wharton’s Bridges to Wealth program, CFFL emphasizes real-world applications, equipping students with skills in budgeting, investing, and wealth-building to foster economic success and reduce the wealth gap.
Set to debut in spring 2025 at Lincoln University, Norfolk State University, and Virginia State University, the program will later expand to additional HBCUs. It includes professional development training for faculty and employs student ambassadors to encourage enrollment.
This initiative continues Toyota’s support for the Shawn Carter Foundation, following efforts like the HBCU Bus Tour aimed at increasing college enrollment. Gloria Carter, co-founder and CEO of SCF, emphasized the program’s focus on uplifting underserved communities and building generational wealth through education.
