The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Environmental Excellence Award is “the nation’s premier recognition program for environmental performance in the health care sector.” Today’s lucky recipient of this accolade is Rochester’s very own I-Square in Irondequoit.

Irondequoit’s I-Square is a mixed use development which features a market, eco gym, a conference center and an Imaginarium, which promotes earth-friendly practices in a creative way.

According to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, I-Square received this award because they believe developers transformed a declining neighborhood into a “model of sustainable living.”

“As a mixed-use, community-centered venue, I-Square exposes a significant number of people to the benefits sustainable practices and renewable energy has on our local environment,” said I-Square owner Mike Nolan.
