Irondequoit Opens Short-Term Rental Permitting Under New Town Code
Written by Site Hub on September 30, 2025
Irondequoit adopted a new code regulating short-term rentals following a November 2024 resident survey. Beginning next week, owners can apply for permits; once approved, permits authorize operation for two years. The ordinance officially takes effect Tuesday, Oct. 14, and details—including application and registration fees—are posted on the town website. The move aligns Irondequoit with other Greater Rochester municipalities reevaluating STRs; Pittsford previously enacted limits in May. Town leaders say the framework aims to balance neighborhood quality of life with property owners’ interests, bringing clearer standards for safety, compliance, and accountability. Residents who rely on STR income are encouraged to apply early and review occupancy, parking, and nuisance requirements, while neighbors can expect improved enforcement mechanisms. The rollout reflects broader regional efforts to harmonize tourism, housing availability, and community expectations.
