Irondequoit Man Accused of Posing as Doctor to Distribute Prescription Drugs

Written by on May 22, 2025

Kevin Whitman, a 27-year-old from Irondequoit, has been charged with impersonating a physician to illegally distribute controlled substances. Authorities say between August 2023 and April 2025, Whitman used a stolen DEA number linked to Strong Memorial Hospital to issue 177 prescriptions, 173 of which were for oxycodone, totaling over 38,000 doses. During a search of his home, investigators found a forged medical diploma from the University of Rochester. Whitman has no legitimate medical credentials or licenses and never worked at the hospital. He faces federal charges including distribution of a controlled substance and fraudulently using another’s DEA registration. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.
