Intellectually Disabled Teen Shot by Idaho Police Dies After One Week on Life Support

Written by on April 12, 2025

Victor Perez, a 17-year-old nonverbal, autistic teen with cerebral palsy, died Saturday after being removed from life support following a police shooting in Pocatello, Idaho. On April 5, four officers responded to a 911 call about a knife-wielding man, unaware Perez’s family was trying to disarm him at home. Video shows officers shooting Victor within 12 seconds of arrival, despite his visible disabilities and inability to jump the fence separating him from them. Nine bullets were removed during surgeries, and his leg was amputated. His death has sparked public outrage and protests, with calls for justice and police accountability. The officers involved are on administrative leave, and an independent investigation is underway. Perez, remembered for his gentle nature and love of wrestling and walks with his mother, was mourned by his family and community.
