Illegal Dirt Bike Crackdown In New York State Community Concern

Written by on March 25, 2021

Just a quick heads up on some possible changes coming to our area regarding illegal dirt bikes. Keeping you informed is what we do here at WDKX. The recent accidents involving illegal dirt bikes causing two deaths one a 9-year-old boy will prompt some changes.

New York State as a whole is cracking down on these illegal dirt bikes so you can bet that Rochester will follow suit. Police across the state are aware of the issues the dirt bikes are causing even putting the public in danger. However, the police can’t chase the people driving the dirt bikes which the riders know so they are able to get away with riding on city streets.

But and a big BUT police are getting creative and strategic with catching illegal dirt bike riders. Buffalo police have implemented the use of helicopters to track and catch illegal dirt bike riders. They are also doing detective work to catch the offenders, confiscate bikes, and even warrants for arrest. They have also increased the fines to $3000.

Just passing along the information.

In the City of Rochester, the Mayor released a statement Monday saying dirt bikes are in fact not legal and should not be driven anywhere in the city and “can’t be tolerated”. She also said the city will work with the community to educate them about the dangers of these types of motor vehicles.
