HS Basketball Both World of Inquiry & Athena Boys & Aquinas Girls Advance To State Semifinals

World of Inquiry topped Akron 58-46 in its first ever regional appearance. The Griffins now move onto the NYS Class B final four. World of Inquiry grabbed a 3-0 lead to start the game and did not trail the rest of the way. World of Inquiry is in its 12th season as a program and continues to make history this season. The Griffins move onto face the winner of Marcellus (III) or Mechanicville (II) on March 22 at 11:45 a.m. at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.
Sophomore Russell Ellis scored 17 points to lead Greece Athena (23-2) past Health Sciences (18-7) of Section VI in the Class AA Far West Regional at Rush-Henrietta High School on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans’ 62-61 win over Health Sciences in the NYSPHSAA quarterfinal. The Trojans move on to play the winner of Niskayuna and West Genesee in the state semifinals in Binghamton next weekend.
AJ Orr and Molly O’Toole combined for all the offense in a decisive fourth-quarter run as Aquinas girls’ basketball clinched a spot in the NYS Class AA semifinals with a 59-50 victory over Section VI champion, Starpoint Friday night at Buffalo State College.
