How people across the U.S. are making the most of the solar eclipse

American’s are planning a variety of unique ways to view and celebrate the solar eclipse sweeping across North America today. Here are some highlights:

1. Andrea Warkentin, a librarian in Texas, recommends using disco balls as a novel way to project the eclipse. This method was successfully used during an annular solar eclipse in October 2023, providing a shared experience and enhancing the viewing for groups.

2. Helen Hutchins from New York is hosting an eclipse-themed baby shower, complete with eclipse glasses, half-moon cookies, and “galaxy drinks.”

3. Jake Goldstein, an outdoor enthusiast from Kansas, is leading a backpacking trip in the Ozark mountains to view the eclipse.

4. Genevieve and John Goss, celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary, plan to travel from Virginia to Indiana to view the eclipse from the spot they were married.

5. Asiyah Herrera, a college student in Boston, looks forward to the eclipse as a meaningful addition to the Ramadan observance, planning to join in a special prayer at the mosque and spend the day in reflection and community togetherness.
