23 states are now rethinking their re opening procedures due to soaring COVID-19 infection rates. On Wednesday, there were over 50,000 new cases of the coronavirus reported across the country. This sets an all time high record that rivals the initial numbers when the pandemic began.
Arizona, California, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas have the highest numbers currently and requesting that all Americans stay home and safe to prevent future outbreaks like the ones that came after Memorial Day.
Other states like Nebraska, where things aren’t so bad, are urging citizens to keep a list of people who come over for contact tracing purposes. Outdoor events are among the lowest risk for infection so those are being encouraged as well.
Oregon State Health Officer Dean Sidelinger commented, saying:
“We know people are tired of being cooped up at home … but cases surged after Memorial Day. We don’t want the same thing to happen over the Independence Day holiday.”
