Happy Labor Day: Governor Kathy Hochul Signs New York Workforce Legislation Package

Written by on September 7, 2021

Yesterday was Labor Day and to celebrate Governor Kathy Hochul signed a package of legislation pertaining to the state’s workforce. The legislation that the New York governor signed was legislation for speed monitoring in work zones, including speed cameras to keep DOT workers safe in work zones. On top of that, the legislation is also against wage theft, specifically targeting subcontractors who are not paying workers a fair wage or paying them under the table.

Governor Kathy Hochul stated: “On Labor Day every year, we’re reminded of the vital contributions of organized labor to building New York, and that’s why I’m signing four pieces of legislation to help workers thrive across our state. These bills will make sure workers are paid fair wages, receive good benefits and stay safe on their worksites. Our state is home to a long and proud legacy of supporting working New Yorkers, and we’re working to bolster that for the future.”
