Gun Buyback Program A Glowing Success

In an attempt to prevent neglected guns from getting into the wrong hands, the Rochester Police Department in partnership with the New York State Attorney General’s Office hosted a gun buyback program this past weekend. The collaborative effort allowed them to collect more than 100 rifles, handguns and assault rifles.
All who turned in an unwanted gun received a gift card in the amount of $25- $100 depending on the type of gun surrendered.
Ted O’Brien, assistant attorney general in charge of the Rochester office, had this to say about the event:
“We don’t believe this is the answer to the problem of gun violence, it’s a piece of the problem. What this does, most importantly, is it affords the public an opportunity to dispose of guns.”
