Governor Kathy Hochul’s Mask Mandate Backed By Monroe County

Written by on December 15, 2021

After receiving backlash from local officials, Governor Kathy Hochul is standing by the state’s new masking rules and so is Monroe County. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello believes the mask mandate is common sense in fighting COVID-19 and says we can’t afford another big wave. Bello stated: “We can’t have another exponential increase throughout this holiday season. If we have another exponential increase, that strain on the hospitals becomes too much. So, we have to follow this and do the right thing.”

When addressing the backlash, Governor Kathy Hochul stated: “I would not be overconfident in any county about their current state of affairs. We just don’t know what the future will bring. This is a preemptive unobtrusive approach…I’m doing everything I can to protect people from the pandemic. Every other elected official or incoming elected official can make their own determination and will have accountability next time around as well.”
