Governor Kathy Hochul Proposes Change To Bail Laws; Locally There Is A Divide

Over 120 local leaders in business, law enforcement, and politicians in the Rochester area all co-signed a letter that calls for members of the assembly and senators to vote for the new proposals to the state’s bail laws.
Governor Kathy Hochuls’ new proposal for the 2024 budget is going to remove the “least restrictive means standard”. This will allow judges more discretion to set bail for defendants accused of violent crimes.
Not all Rochester area leaders support this change and have sent a letter to the Governor to consider more long-term legislation instead.
