Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 15,000 correctional officers in New York have been on strike for over a week without union approval, leading to legal actions and inmate relocations to address staffing shortages.
The strike, which began due to concerns about long working hours, violates New York’s Taylor Law.
Hochul emphasized that the actions of the striking officers are putting the state at risk.
While several hundred officers returned to work, thousands continue to strike.
State police have started serving restraining orders to the striking officers, with 380 served so far, and further actions planned against those who continue to strike.
