Google is declared a Monopoly

The U.S. Department of Justice is considering significant actions to break up Google’s dominance in the search engine market following a ruling that declared the company an illegal monopoly. In a court filing, the DOJ outlined potential remedies, including stopping Google from paying companies like Apple to make it the default search engine and restricting how its AI uses data from other websites. The filing marks the first step in developing solutions to address Google’s anti-competitive behavior, with a trial on proposed remedies set for next spring. Google plans to appeal the ruling, arguing that government intervention could harm innovation and increase costs for consumers. The DOJ will submit a more detailed plan next month, and Google will respond by December. European regulators are also pushing for a breakup of Google’s ad business amid similar concerns.
