Dwight Symonds was in the right place at the right time on Saturday night when he happened to be driving down Western Boulevard in Canandaigua.

While sitting at a red light, he witnessed a car drive off the side of the road and down an embankment.

“I see this car pull over to the side and it just kept going over and over and right over the embankment. I pulled over and I looked down and his interior light was on, I could see his face, could see the smoke coming out of the front of his car, I called 911 and by the time I went down over the embankment, it [the car] burst into flames,” he told News10NBC.

Luckily for the driver, Canandaigua Police Officer Anthony Catalfamo and NYS Trooper Chris Braun were also in the right place at the right time to help. They say that if it were not for Dwight Symonds, the driver would have likely died.

The driver of the vehicle was airlifted to strong memorial hospital and expected to survive his injuries. At this time police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
