GM Recall For 7 Million Vehicles From Takata Airbag Inflators

There is a pretty big recall announced by truck maker General Motors on Monday. The recall is for about 7 million vehicles. The recall is for the Takata airbag and affects GM big trucks and SUV’s.

This is a worldwide recall to replace the Takata airbag inflators. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said GM is putting profits over safety. According to Aljazeera.com the NHTSA said the inflators still are a risk of exploding when exposed to heat and humidity.

GM said the Takata airbags have been tested and they are safe on the road and in testing. The Detroit automaker said they will not fight the government and will recall the trucks. They will lose $1.2 billion which is one-third of their income for the year this far.

The exploding Takata inflators resulted in the largest recall in U.S. history for vehicles. There were 63 million vehicles recalled and there are still around 11.1 million that have not been fixed. 18 people in the United States died from the exploding inflators.

The recall is for the GM full size pick up trucks and SUV’s from 2007-2014 which include the Chevrolet Silverado pick ups 1500, 2500, and 3500.

Also recalled are the Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and Avalanche, the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, and the GMC Yukon.
