General Motors (GM) has announced indefinite layoffs for employees at its Rochester plant, set to take effect on March 24, 2025. According to a notification from local management, 26 workers at the Lexington Avenue facility will be impacted by these layoffs.
In response to inquiries, GM confirmed the decision, citing “operational changes” as the reason for the layoffs. While affected employees face uncertainty, the company stated that potential job opportunities may be available at its Tonawanda Propulsion Systems facility or other GM locations.
The local chapter of the United Auto Workers (UAW) has acknowledged the layoffs and is expected to work with employees to navigate the transition. GM has not disclosed further details about the specific operational changes leading to the decision.
This development comes amid broader economic and industry shifts, leaving workers and union representatives concerned about future stability at the Rochester facility.
