The world was shocked and horrified at the treatment of George Floyd, aged 46, who sadly died in police custody on May 25th.
As the world grieves his death, many people are curious to learn about who Floyd was, to ensure he is never forgotten and his legacy can live on.
It has been revealed that Floyd was an active member in the Houston rap scene and worked with the Screwed Up Click, a collective led by the late iconic Houston, DJ Screw.
Before moving to Minneapolis in 2019, Floyd lived in Houston. During this time he rapped on multiple mixtapes under the pseudonym Big Floyd. He even collaborated on the album ‘Block Party’ as a member of the Presidential Playas in 2000.
Many Houston rappers have paid tribute to Floyd, including an original Screwed Up Click member, Lil’ Keke. Lil’ Keke wrote on Instagram, “R.I.P. Big Floyd He took his life in broad day may God bring his family justice.” Another rapper, Trae The Truth, posted a picture of Floyd on Instagram with the caption, “Say His Name #GeorgeFloyd Rest Easy… The Fight For Us Begins Now.”
