Gender Disparities Plague Sports Funding
Written by Site Hub on June 25, 2022
Although women are incrementally becoming more involved in college sports, the investment gap between men’s sports and women’s sports remains unchanged. With a difference of a nearly 3-1 ratio, some are asking why that disparity exists. At the college level, some experts have pointed out that women do not occupy many leadership roles in sports. In 1990, 90% of women’s sports were managed by women, but in 2020 that number dramatically declined to just 41%. Some wonder if invoking Title IX is appropriate to address this disparity. Experts are unsure whether the financial disparity constitutes an infraction of Title IX.
