Veteran journalist Gayle King is set to embark on an historic spaceflight with Blue Origin’s first all-women crew this spring.
A Star-Studded Crew
King will be joined by:
Katy Perry (pop superstar)
Lauren Sánchez (journalist and philanthropist)
Aisha Bowe (former NASA rocket scientist)
Amanda Nguyen (civil rights activist)
Kerianne Flynn (film producer)
Together, they will travel 62 miles above Earth to the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and space.
A Bold New Adventure
Although going to space wasn’t on her bucket list, King is embracing the challenge despite some fear.
“I don’t know how to explain being terrified and excited at the same time,” she admitted on CBS Mornings.
Having recently turned 70, King sees this mission as a chance to push past her comfort zone. She sought advice from her children, Kirby and Will, and Oprah Winfrey, who encouraged her to take the opportunity.
“She said, ‘If you don’t do it, when they all come back, you’ll be kicking yourself,’” King recalled.
A Historic Moment in Space Travel
The flight will be Blue Origin’s 11th human spaceflight under the New Shepard program, marking another milestone for women in space exploration.
King is honored to be part of this trailblazing group, saying:
“These women are so bada—. They have such amazing life stories.”
