Free swim lessons offered to local kids

Written by on November 17, 2024

The YMCA of Greater Rochester, in partnership with MVP Health Care, is offering free swim lessons to local children as part of an effort to promote water safety and accessibility. Each ten-week session accommodates 50 kids, with 100 children served overall. Open to kids aged 6-18, the lessons aim to teach swimming as a vital life skill, particularly in a region with limited access to pools.

The sessions take place at the Maplewood Family YMCA in Rochester. A second session begins in January, with registration opening on December 16. George Warren, Vice President of Urban Services at the YMCA, emphasized the importance of addressing declining access to pools and fostering confidence in water environments. MVP Health Care also highlighted its commitment to supporting community programs that provide essential skills like swimming.

This initiative seeks to break down barriers to swim education while ensuring more children have the opportunity to learn water safety skills for a lifetime. Registration for the January session opens December 16th. Register here.
