Free Food Stands In Rochester: Where They Are And How To Donate

Written by on December 26, 2020

Rochester now has 11 free food stands with the motto “Take what you need, leave what you can” written on them. Three of which were put there by Kai Lipton, who represents the organization LAPL (Liberating All Black Lives).

During an interview with the Democrat & Chronicle, they said:

“Nobody should have to choose between food and rent …We know black and brown areas have been hit harder in the pandemic. We try to stock them every day, if not every other day. The community has really been coming together and helping. We’re so thankful for the community.”

Other organizations like “Food Not Bombs” are placing and stocking the stands as well.

When Bianca Lampey finished dropping off her unused items, she noticed how often the stand located at 261 Pennsylvania Ave. is emptied.

She gave a statement, saying:

“I just brought a big package of food – and now it’s all gone, so I know families are benefiting from this.”

These are the 11 locations:

261 Pennsylvania Ave (Market View Heights)
125 Caroline Street (South Wedge)
20 Alexander Street (South Wedge)
Lansdale St. & Nelson St. (Swillburg)
The intersection of Meigs St & 490 (Garden Food Pantry)
184 Sherman St (Lyell-Otis)
2300 Nine Mile Point Road (Penfield)
271 Flint Street (Flint Street Rec Center)
700 North Street (North Street Rec Center)
50 Science Parkway (Golisano Autism Center)
41 Backus St. (Edgerton Rec Center)
