Frederick Douglas Statue Torn Down At Maplewood Rose Garden

On Sunday, July 5th the Frederick Douglas statue that was on display at the Maplewood Rose Garden was torn down and vandalized.

Officers from the Rochester Police Department reported they found the statue and its pedestal damaged and removed from their base.

The statue was found about 50 feet from its pedestal, leaning on the other side of the fence by the gorge.

It has since been recovered and sent to a facility to be repaired.

This is an ongoing story.
