Former WROC-TV Reporter Discussing New Memoir on March 17th

Written by on March 16, 2024

Natasha Alford, a former WROC-TV (Channel 8) reporter in Rochester, has authored a memoir titled “American Negra,” drawing from her unique life experiences at the intersection of Black and Puerto Rican cultures. Growing up, Alford felt unrepresented in popular culture and literature, prompting her to encapsulate her journey in this work. The memoir has garnered national attention, making Elle magazine’s list of the “Most Anticipated” non-fiction books for 2024. Alford will be discussing and signing her memoir in Rochester on Sunday, March 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pittsford Barnes & Noble.

Alford’s background in journalism and her current roles, including as vice-president of digital content and senior correspondent at TheGrio, as well as an analyst on CNN, underscore her dedication to exploring the why behind her experiences. She hopes her memoir will be used in educational settings to reflect diverse experiences and foster a broader understanding of American history, amidst concerns about the censorship of uncomfortable historical truths.
