The Rochester Young Black Professionals ran a food drive yesterday to help the 60,000 families in Rochester that are or will be suffering from food insecurity related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The food drive was coordinated between multiple locations and over 100 cars with trunks full of food arrived to donate.
Volunteer Cassandra Scott gave a statement, saying:
“We’re participating in sorting and carrying food to and from cars that have donated,” Scott said. “In Rochester, since the pandemic has hit, food shortages have been common, so we’re looking to close that gap.”
The food gathered at the drive thru locations is going to be distributed to 7 different food banks. If you’d like to help and donate online, all proceeds will be going towards the food programs.
Taren Greenidge, another volunteer said:
“We actually had 23 different organizations who cosponsored this event with us,” Greenidge said. “The community provided an amazing response. We are so thrilled with the amount of food that we were able to collect for the programs.”
