This flu season, peaking later than in the past two years, is compounding challenges for hospitals already grappling with RSV and COVID-19 cases. The combination is causing capacity issues across local healthcare systems.

During a January 17 news conference, Monroe County’s health commissioner and hospital leaders urged residents to stay updated on flu, COVID, and RSV vaccinations. They also recommended seeking care from primary physicians or urgent care facilities when ill, rather than overwhelming hospital emergency departments.

As flu cases continue to climb, these precautions are critical to reducing the strain on healthcare providers and safeguarding community health.
