Influenza cases in Monroe County have surged by 51%, with 1,060 cases reported for the week ending January 18, alongside 84 hospitalizations. Statewide, cases rose 46%, totaling 48,291.
This season is peaking later than in the previous two years, leading to capacity challenges in local hospitals due to concurrent outbreaks of RSV and COVID.
During a news conference on January 17, health officials urged residents to get vaccinated for flu, COVID, and RSV if eligible.
They also advised seeking care from primary physicians or urgent care facilities before going to emergency departments to alleviate hospital pressure.
