Schools in Florida will be required to open for in-person classes, starting in August. Teachers and staff are baffled as to why this is happening and don’t agree with the decision.

As COVID-19 cases grow to over 200,000 the Florida Department of Education announced Monday that all schools will be required to open at least five days per week for all students in August.

President of the Florida Education Association went on CNN and told viewers:

“We’ve been given no guidance. We’ve been given no regulations that make sense to reopen our schools, and in the middle of a pandemic, we’re being told we have to reopen schools come hell or high water.”

Alberto Carvalho, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools comment as well, saying:

“I will not reopen our school system August 24 if the conditions are what they are today. Our reopening plan contemplates a phase two reality. We are still in phase one, a phase one that has degraded over the past few weeks.”
