Fleeing Suspect In California Tries To Lose The FBI In Lake Shasta

Written by on November 18, 2020

The FBI was recently trailing a suspect who was allegedly fleeing a Ponzi scheme and had been indicted on 31 felony counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering a witness tampering.

As the agents narrowed in on Matthew Piercey 44, in Redding, CA, he narrowly escaped capture and fled by vehicle. The chase led the FBI to Lake Shasta, where Piercey ditched the truck, grabbed something out of the bed and dove into the water.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Hales:

“Piercey spent some time out of sight underwater where law enforcement could only see bubbles. He remained in the frigid water for approximately 25 minutes,” Hales wrote. “Law enforcement arrested Piercey at that point, approximately an hour after their initial contact in Redding.”

Piercey was able to stay underwater for so long with the assistance of a Yamaha 350LI Seascooter underwater submersible device, which goes for around 1,200 on Amazon.
