Firefighters from the St. Paul Blvd. Fire District in Irondequoit are being celebrated for helping deliver a baby during a February emergency call. Firefighters Eric Bell, Barry Lamendola, and Christian Shafer responded to the call early in their 24-hour shift. By the time they arrived, the baby had been delivered by the grandmother, and the crew quickly stepped in to provide assistance and comfort. Lamendola, with over 30 years of experience, said it was his third time responding to a childbirth call. The team dried the baby, helped calm the mother, and ensured safe transport to the hospital. The family later expressed deep gratitude for the crew’s care and professionalism. The Irondequoit firefighter’s union shared the touching moment online, highlighting the joy of welcoming Baby Malakai into the world. Stories like this remind us of the unpredictable nature of emergency service work—and the heartwarming rewards that come with it.
