Yesterday, the jury selection began for the federal trial of three former Minneapolis police officers who were on the scene when their fellow officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, ultimately killing Floyd. The three officers charged are Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane. They stand in federal court on charges that they violated Floyd’s civil rights by failing to provide him with medical aid during the encounter. In addition to these charges, Thao and Kueng are also charged with failing to stop Chauvin’s use of force.

This federal trial begins with continued justice for George Floyd as back in April of last year, the former officer who killed Floyd, Derek Chauvin, has been founded guilty of his murder and is now serving a 22 1/2-year prison sentence.
