FDA grants authorization for emergency use of Yale’s COVID-19 saliva test

SalivaDirect is the fifth saliva test that’s been approved by the FDA for the disease. Yale School of Public Health used players and staff at the National Basketball Association to trial the test. They partnered up in June, and tested asymptomatic players, coaches and staff from various teams. The goal was to come up with a cheap, simple and less invasive test. FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn has called the new test, “groundbreaking”.
