Family of Alton Sterling Reach $4.5M Settlement Over 2016 Police Shooting

The family of Alton Sterling, the 37-year-old Black man, was selling CDs in front of a convenience store in July 2016 when he was shot and killed by two white police officers. Have reached a $4.5m settlement with the Louisiana city. In a statement, lawyers for the family thanked the city and announced that they were dropping their lawsuit.
“On behalf of the family of Alton Sterling, we are pleased to announce that we have reached a $4.5 million settlement with the city of Baton Rouge and dismissed our lawsuit against the city and others,” they said on Sunday.
