The family of Robert Brooks, who died in a state prison, gathered with community advocates and members of the Rochester Police Accountability Board at East High School to demand accountability and systemic change.
Brooks, 43, was serving a 12-year sentence and died on December 10, a day after being beaten by officers on his first day at Marcy Correctional Facility.
His death has been ruled a homicide, and a grand jury will review the evidence beginning Monday, as reported by the Albany Times Union.
