Is this school district right or wrong for this?

Children from Auburn, New York are being removed from school, after their father took them out of town for vacation.

The dad said he took the kids to Missouri and decided to stay a little longer. The children are still attending their remote learning sessions while staying at another relatives house.
The father says he has been renting his home back here in New York as an Airbnb while the family is in Missouri.  The school district was made aware of the vacation and sent him a email saying after October 23rd his kids are no longer eligible to attend remote learning in that district.
Now the dad did say he is planning on coming back to his home in upstate New York he just hasn’t picked an actual return date.
The father said he still paying taxes on his house so the kids remote learning location shouldn’t matter.
