If you are a caregiver of a child whom you believe has vision problems then keep reading, this blog post is for you!

Presented by the University of Rochester Flaum Eye Institute, the Eyeglasses for Kids Program makes it possible for children to receive prescription glasses completely free! It is intended for kids who cannot afford the cost of an exam or glasses.

The program is held one Saturday a month during the school year, starting in November and ending in June. Once a caregiver has a failed vision screening from their child’s school, they can call Anna Booth, URMC Outreach Coordinator, at 585-276-6698 to sign up for an appointment.

Once your appointment is set, the exam will be provided by a volunteer doctor at the University of Rochester Flaum Eye Institute and the glasses are made the same day and, if they cannot be made the same day, they will be dropped off directly at the child’s school when they are finished.

The optical shop works hard to ensure the children’s frame choices are what they would like. This increases the likelihood that they will be comfortable/happy wearing them, and that they will actually wear them when they should.
