‘Enough!’: Rochester’s Call to Peace

Written by on June 24, 2021

Yesterday, nearly two dozen people took to Rochester’s southwest side to denounce violence following recent shootings, some of those being fatal. The group had started at the Boys & Girls Club on Genesee Street, which is supposed to be a safe spot for kids to gather. It is now the site of one of Rochester’s most violent acts, where three teens were slain after a basketball game let out in 2015. The group then headed down Dr. Samuel McCree Way to Jefferson Avenue. This a short distance from where the city’s latest homicide victim, a 21-year-old woman, was shot.

Along the way, the group had some onlookers join. They chanted; “Stop the violence, stop the killing! Enough!” Though they didn’t have many, their message was powerful and clear; they demanded change.
