ELA Computer Testing Interrupted by Technical Glitch, Again

Written by on April 4, 2019

New York State’s computer-based ELA Common Core testing was interrupted on Tuesday after the state’s vendor for computer-based testing, Questar Assessment Inc., experienced a technical glitch.

Some school districts in the Rochester area were affected including, Churchville-Chili, East Irondequoit, Greece, Rush-Henrietta, Spencerport, and Webster.

This is the second year in a row Questar’s technical glitching has interrupted state testing. Last April nearly 550 West Irondequoit middle school students were affected when the Questar server failed.

Questar Assessment Inc.’s COO Brad Baumgartner said in a statement, “We understand the frustration, and our team has been working around the clock to ensure New York schools can resume computer-based testing as soon as possible. We have consulted with respected outside firms and have wasted no time implementing their recommendations…”

Luckily, most of the students were able to submit their tests before the servers went down. Baumgartner said, “Of the 93,100 total students who started tests on Tuesday, 93 percent of, or 86,500, students who started testing sessions successfully completed and submitted their tests that day.”

Testing will resume on Thursday for those students who were unable to complete testing on Tuesday.
