Tragedy strikes the small town of Serenity in Season 4 of “Sweet Magnolias” when a main character is killed off. After Maddie and Cal’s (JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Justin Bruening) surprise wedding in the season premiere, the vibe instantly shifts at the end of Episode 2 when Maddie’s former mother-in-law Bonnie Townsend (Judith Ivey) shows up to her house unannounced to share some somber news: Bill (Chris Klein) has died.
