Dentist offices to remain closed throughout state except for emergencies

Written by on May 22, 2020

Phases of re-opening are taking place every day and beaches are scheduled to re-open in New York and nearby states at 50 percent capacity for Memorial Day Weekend starting May 22. Yet, dentist offices are still not allowed to re-open except under special circumstances.

Per the New York Dental Association: “The latest Executive Order #202.31 from Governor Cuomo, coupled with the official listing of essential business services from the New York State Empire State Development Corporation, demonstrate that no dental office of any type can open anywhere in New York State before May 28 except for emergency/urgent services.”

Dental services involve close contact scenarios that can cause the virus to spread. Close contact in general still isn’t permitted in most areas of the state. For this reason, gathering areas like beach picnic spots and playgrounds will remain closed this upcoming weekend even as beaches re-open with social distancing rules.

It’s important to note that the tentative date only applies to regions that have been approved for Phase I re-opening, which includes the Rochester and Finger Lakes region. Other areas of the state still haven’t received approval to re-open. Additionally, full dental services will only return if re-opening efforts are successful.
