Written by on July 28, 2026

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has released a new report which shows a high concentration of hazardous waste has been found in soil near the old Kodak Hawkeye Plant on St. Paul Street The report shows the DEC completed a site characterization at 1405-1447 St. Paul Street between 2023-2024. Its findings include above-normal levels of trichloroethylene (TCE) and dichloroethene (DCE) in groundwater. The Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) have linked prolonged exposure to TCE to certain cancers and cardiac defects. News 8 has reached out to the State DEC to provide clarification on the remediation process, including the duration and what exactly it entails. We expect to hear back within the next week.
